Hair Transplant

Hair transplant surgeries date back to the 1950s. Surgeons across the world have been working on improving and perfecting these techniques. Of course, the hair transplant surgeries performed today are very different from back then, and the results are also far more superior.

Hair transplant is a surgery performed to treat baldness. The procedure involves removing healthy hair follicles from one area of the body (known as the donor area) and planting them in the area where there is no hair (known as the recipient area). The hair follicles used for the purpose of removal and grafting are called “follicular units”.

The surgeon performing this procedure needs to be highly skilled since the follicular units are fragile and delicate to handle. In general, the best hair transplant in India is a minimally invasive surgery.

  1. FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation): In FUT, the surgeon selects the donor area typically located at the back or sides of the head. A linear strip is surgically removed from the central portion of the permanent zone at the back of the head. This strip is then carefully dissected into smaller units called grafts, which are subsequently implanted in areas with hair loss.
  2. FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction): In contrast to FUT, FUE involves the extraction of individual hair follicles from across the entire donor area. Notably, FUE leaves no visible scarring.

Hair transplant procedures may involve some discomfort, as is common with many medical interventions. Nevertheless, it’s important to note that recent advancements in the field of cosmetic surgery have substantially reduced the pain associated with hair transplants.

It’s essential to bear in mind that not everyone is a suitable candidate for hair transplant surgery. Firstly, one needs to have a viable donor area with an ample supply of hair for grafting. Additionally, a healthy scalp is a prerequisite.

Thanks to innovative techniques, it has become increasingly challenging to discern whether an individual has undergone a hair transplant procedure or not.

Hair transplant surgery is open to any medically fit adult, regardless of gender, who is experiencing alopecia (baldness).

Before the surgery, doctors administer medication to maintain your current hair growth and ensure the donor area’s health. There are no other pre-surgery medications or special precautions required. Post-surgery, doctors prescribe pain-relief medication. Additionally, medications are given to reduce swelling and minimize the risk of infection.

After the surgery, patients are advised to cover their head for a few days. The stitches used are absorbable, eliminating the need for a clinic visit to remove them. Patients can typically return to work and resume their daily routines within a couple of days without significant hindrances or special precautions.

The cost of hair transplant in India varies depending on the number of grafts needed and the extent of baldness a patient has.
